Freedom is a culinary and cultural kiosk on the Halifax Waterfront that celebrates the heritage and creativity of African Nova Scotian communities. We serve handheld comfort food with roots in African Nova Scotian tradition, including Nova Scotian Blueberry Grunt, Honey Maple Molasses Cornbread and our signature gourmet sandwiches. More than just a place to eat, Freedom offers a rich educational experience—sharing powerful stories, uplifting community, and inviting all to engage with the vibrant and unique African Nova Scotian culture that has helped shape culture across Canada and beyond.

My first time trying blueberry grunt, and I wasn’t disappointed at all! It was absolutely delicious and a great introduction to this classic dessert. I would definitely order it again.

Wow this place is truly a hidden gem. My family came down for Canada day. We each had the "Northern italian " sandwich and corn bread. Both were amazing. The portions were large and full of flavor. They even serve the corn bread warm with butter and molasses on top. We will definitely return. Thank you!!

Dean has created a truly special spot. Everybody who works here is so welcoming and the food is FANTASTIC! Everything I’ve tried has been unbelievable. A gem on the waterfront :)
